Prayers to Saint Joseph

Pastor’s Column

Solemnity of Saint Joseph

Friday, March 19, 2021

Since Pope Francis has declared this to be the year of Saint Joseph, here are some prayers you can say. One traditional devotion is to say the Litany of Saint Joseph (on the reverse side) every Wednesday. Like so many of us, Saint Joseph had one unexpected challenge after the other in his life, and he always obeyed the will of God. If you ask him, he will also assist you in your own unexpected trials. I am placing this in the bulletin so you can say some prayers before his feast day on March 19!

O good St. Joseph, thank you for praying for me for perseverance in my faith and life, that I will not run away from God's will today, but that I might grow in grace in my trials without committing sin, as you did in the difficulties you faced in your life.

When I am faced with extreme challenges as you did in your life, please ask the Holy Spirit to help me understand what must be done that I might do his will His will and avoid whatever may separate me from His love Please help me to win victories in these areas for I cannot do so without the grace of God and the intercession of my friends in heaven like you. Amen

Litany of Saint Joseph

Lord, have mercy on us.

Christ, have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

He made him the master of his household.

And put him in charge of all that he possessed.

Let us pray— O God, in your providence you were pleased to choose

Blessed Joseph to be the spouse of your most Holy Mother;

Grant, we beg you, that we may be worthy to have Him for our intercessor in heaven whom on earth we venerate as our Protector: You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
